12 Seasonal Ingredients Perfect For This Fall

We're swapping sweet corn, tomatoes and peaches for pumpkin, squash, cinnamon and more. Read on for the full list of our fave fall ingredients.

We love you summer, but it’s time for all things fall. One of the easiest ways to get into the fall spirit? Your kiddo’s meals! We’re swapping summer’s plump strawberries, fresh corn and sweet juicy peaches for 12 of fall’s most nutritious, savory and delicious ingredients. Here’s what’s at the very top of our fall ingredient list this year, and it’s more than just pumpkin.

1. Pumpkin

From pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin patches, pumpkins scream fall. Pumpkin is a great source of beta-carotene, iron and vitamin E and can introduce your little one to the first bites of fall with Little Spoon’s Limited Edition Pumpkin Pie Babyblend.

2. Sweet Potato

Want your mini to feel warm and cozy this season? Sweet potatoes are just the thing. They’re packed with essential vitamins and antioxidants for your growing kiddo and are an excellent source of fiber and potassium. Serve your kids Little Spoon’s Turkey Kale Meatballs with sweet potato + zucchini for lunch or dinner, and pair it with a Sweet Potato Carrot Cake Smoothie as a snack for the ultimate sweet potato day! Got a younger babe on your hands? The Sweet Potato Babyblend will be the way to their haert.

3. Apple

Whether you and your fam love apple-picking or are just fans of keeping the doctor away, make sure apples are on your list this season. They’re a nutritional powerhouse with high water content and lots of fiber. Hydration and nutrition? Check! A quick and easy way to get your hands on this delicious fruit is with Little Spoon’s Golden Apple Pie Smoothie or their new Apple Pie Oat Bake, an oat-based bar with baked apples and hints of warm cinnamon that tastes just like a homemade apple pie!

4. Millet

This little grain is small but mighty. Millet is rich in dietary fiber and nutrients, such as magnesium, phosphorus and B vitamins, and is higher in protein compared to other grains. Little Spoon has you covered with their Veggies + Millet Babyblend with chicken bone broth + olive oil.

5. Cinnamon

Spice up your life! This fragrant superstar takes center stage and is certainly our household favorite. As a bonus, cinnamon helps expand the palate and contains antibacterial and antifungal properties to boost your kid’s immune system. It’s no wonder Little Spoon’s Tahini Banana Bread Smoothie is one of the most popular.

6. Quinoa

These tiny super grains are an excellent source of amino acids, plant-based protein and easily digestible for your little’s healthy development. Your mini will love it in the Chicken Pot Stickers Plate which features a light veggie and quinoa stir fry.

7. Ginger

Ginger is an extremely versatile ingredient and a great way to add flavor in a healthy way. Plus, it’s loaded with lots of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and supports digestion. You can use it in a pureé, savory meal, smoothie, a spicy fall dessert, or even a special drink 😉.

8. Chickpeas

They might seem boring since they’re packed with fiber, potassium, B vitamins, iron, magnesium and protein BUT, they can be eaten in fun ways too. ICYMI, Little Spoon dropped a chickpea-based, crunchy, playful snack that’s packed with other hidden veggies, too!

9. Carrots

We all love a good orange carrot, but have you ever had a white or purple carrot? More unusual varieties like white and purple carrots are harvested specifically in fall, so don’t be afraid to try them! They are rich in potassium, vitamin C and K, and each individual color contains a specific set of antioxidants which offer slightly different nutritional benefits. Dig into Little Spoon’s Purple Carrot Acai Bowl Smoothie or Purple Carrot Babyblend for a true taste of fall. Yum!

10. Turmeric

Turmeric is here to rock your kid’s taste buds! Turmeric brings more than just vibrant color to dishes…its active compound, curcumin, boasts potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties will support your little’s overall health. Introduce this powerful ingredient to your babe with Little Spoon’s Turmeric Sweet Potato Bell Pepper Soup Babyblend.

11. Butternut Squash

From sweet to savory, there is nothing butternut squash can’t do! It is naturally rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C to support your growing kiddo’s immune system, keeping them happy and healthy. Ready to be WOWed? This Mac + Three Cheese Plate will do just that. The ooey gooey cheesy sauce is actually made with organic butternut squash (but shhh your picky eaters don’t need to know that).

12. Pear

There’s no such thing as too many pears! They can be roasted, grilled or even dehydrated and no matter which way you eat them, they are a great source of fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Your baby won’t be able to get enough of Little Spoon’s Pea Pear Mint Babyblend, and make sure to grab a Cookies & Cream Smoothie while you’re at it (the first ingredient is pear 🤯).
