Ways to Support Families Impacted by the Los Angeles Fires

Here's how you can assist the families impacted by the devastation of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The recent fires in Los Angeles have brought devastation to so many families, leaving them in urgent need of support. Whether you’re nearby or across the country, there are meaningful ways you can help those impacted. As of January 9th, we’re partnering with Baby2Baby to donate dry goods and we’re continuing to reach out to other organizations to coordinate additional support, and will keep this article updated as we learn more. Here are some ideas to make a difference:

Donate Essential Supplies

Organizations like Baby2Baby are collecting and distributing critical items to families in need. These include diapers, formula, clothing, hygiene products, and non-perishable food. Check their website for a list of most-needed items or make a monetary donation to help them source supplies quickly.

You can also donate to other organizations actively providing relief, such as:

Offer Temporary Housing

If you have extra space in your home or know of local shelters, consider offering temporary housing to displaced families. Platforms like Airbnb.org often collaborate with relief organizations to connect hosts with people in need of emergency accommodations.

Support Local Organizations

Many local nonprofits and community groups are on the ground providing aid. Research organizations in the area and donate to those directly assisting affected families. Some to consider:

  • LA Regional Food Bank
  • Red Cross Los Angeles Chapter
  • California Community Foundation Wildfire Relief Fund

Volunteer Your Time

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, volunteering your time can make a big difference. Help distribute supplies, prepare meals, or assist at shelters. Check with local organizations or volunteer networks to find opportunities.

Offer Financial Support

Cash donations are often the most effective way to help. They allow relief organizations to quickly purchase exactly what’s needed. Even small contributions can go a long way in providing food, shelter, and other essentials to those in crisis.

Provide Emotional Support

The emotional toll of losing a home or being displaced can be immense. Consider donating to mental health organizations or crisis hotlines to ensure families have access to counseling and emotional support.

Support Animal Rescue Efforts

The Pasadena Humane Society is involved in rescuing and caring for animals affected by the fires. Consider donating or volunteering to assist with their efforts.

Spread Awareness

Amplify the needs of affected families by sharing updates and resources on social media. Encourage your network to contribute and stay informed about the evolving situation.

Together, we can help families affected by this tragedy find safety, comfort, and hope. Our hearts go out to the communities impacted by these devastating fires. Thank you for joining us in making a difference.
