It’s finally time to start solids, and you reach for a Little Spoon Babyblend. In case you didn’t know, Little Spoon makes starting solids suuuuper easy. Here’s how it works:
- Babyblends come in 6 stages of organic, non-GMO. Clean Label Project verified baby food
- Babyblends are freshly made and start from single ingredient and smooth purees all the way to textured and multi-ingredient recipes
- Babyblends can be stored unopened in the fridge for up to 14 days or in your freezer for up to 2 months
We know just how starting your feeding journey can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to figuring out how much to serve! Every baby is different, but most start by eating less than one Babyblend per feeding session (each Blend is 4oz), with most of their nutrition still coming from bottles or breast milk. Use this guide to help you find the balance between solids and formula/bottles/breastmilk.
It’s totally normal for early eaters to just sample their new food, so don’t worry if your little one doesn’t finish an entire serving! As you’re figuring out your baby’s needs, you can portion out what you think you’ll use into a FDA-approved, non-toxic, food-grade silicone non-slip suction bowl and go from there. If you haven’t already, check out this perfect Little Eater’s Collection of mealtime accessories to help you along the way.
You can always reseal the Babyblend using the lid it comes with and store them in the fridge for up to two days after opening. If you don’t use a bowl like the above, you can also portion out what you think you will use into air-tight refrigerator/freezer safe containers so that you don’t double dip as bacteria can grow.
Let’s talk about the actual feeding portion (no pun intended).
Most babies enjoy their Babyblends at room temperature or slightly warmer, just like their breast milk or formula but they can be eaten at a range of temperatures. It’s really whatever works best for your baby! To warm up your Blend, we recommend putting the container in a shallow bowl of warm water and stirring until heated. If you wish to microwave, simply pour the puree into a microwave safe dish and stir to ensure it’s been evenly warmed. Always test to ensure the Blend is at the right temperature before serving.
Now, some babies move on from Stage 1 pretty quickly, and others like to linger. We recommend ordering meals for a few stages at a time in case your little one decides more is more! Here are some of our favorites from each stage:
- Stage 1: Pear
- Stage 2: Sweet Potato + Carrot
- Stage 3: Strawberry Banana Murasaki Sweet Potato
- Stage 4: Mango Banana Chia Pudding
- Stage 5: Tuscan Quinoa and White Bean Soup
- Stage 6: Blueberry Purple Carrot Overnight Oats
Protip: if your kiddo doesn’t seem to like a flavor, save it to mix with one they do enjoy. It can take up to 15 exposures for a yuck to turn into a yum!
Have fun exploring new foods with your little one!
