Your baby’s health starts with you.

What’s your #OneForYearOne?

For every mother, everywhere. With every share, we’re donating back to Every Mother Counts.

It’s time to pay attention to mom.

So much of year one is all about the baby, but this window of time is just as critical for mom’s health.

1 in 3 maternal deaths happen during pregnancy, another 3rd in the week following childbirth, and a 3rd one week to one year after giving birth.(1)

The maternal mortality rates in the US continue to rise, yet 60% percent of maternal deaths and half of severe complications are considered preventable.(2)

The US is the only developed country with no paid family leave. Studies have revealed the powerful impact paid family leave has on maternal and baby health.(2)

What We Can Do As Moms and For Moms

  • Know your birth plan.
Get the facts, know what you want out of your childbirth experience and prepare for both the expected and unexpected.
  • Listen to women.
Women know their own bodies better than anyone else - any health concerns should be taken seriously.
  • Prioritize Postpartum Care.
Many women aren’t seen for a postpartum visit until 6 weeks after birth. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists now recommends that women have a visit within three weeks of giving birth and that postpartum care be an ongoing process, rather than a single visit.(4)
  • Look for the warning signs.
Pregnancy and childbirth complications can manifest in many ways, so don’t hesitate to seek advice from a care provider. Mood disorders, including depression and anxiety, are the most common complication of pregnancy and the postpartum period. It’s critical that people receive the help, support, and ongoing connection they need to promptly identify and address these symptoms.
  • Advocate for paid family leave.
The US is the only developed country with no paid family leave.
  • Donate to Every Mother Counts
Dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every woman, everywhere.
